Playing with Steam Algorithm Part #2 - Seeker: Quest Early Access research
·Greetings you!
Welcome to the "data corner"!
Let's take a look what has happened since the last time. In case you missed the Part #1, you can read the "Playing with Steam Algorithm Part #1" before continuing your read.
Overall, it seems that at least within a week, you can't really see any major results within the data. It looks pretty much the same as the week before the changes + marketing. The only difference is that there are couple of wishlists (+15) appeared. (You can Wishlist the game here as well: Seeker: Quest Steam Store Page)
Here is the data from the previous week
When comparing the the previous week data, the store page had:
- Impressions within the past week: 1785
- Page visits within the past week: 1006 (Big conversion because of my own marketing)
So, when looking at this you could even say that stuff went into much more bad direction. But the interesting thing here is how the amount of impressions dropped.
But let's take a look where did the impressions come from
These are the sources of traffic on 11-25th of November
And these are the traffic sources from time 26-12th of December
The interesting thing here is the Direct Navigation, which simply means the following:
So in a nutshell, my own marketing. This is not organic traffic from Steam, which the traffic I'm aiming to increase.
So right now it seems, that Steam is not doing a very good job in promoting the game on it's own platform. Most of the traffic is still coming from my own actions, rather than from the Steam itself.
And no, I'm not blaming the Steam. The algorithm obviously works automatically and there are still things which seems are not fitting the "Algorithm criteria"
The search continues!
As the Early Access launch approaches rapidly, it's interesting to see does these number arise when we get closer to release. (Talking about the organic traffic)
But in the meanwhile, it's better to continue my own marketing, but also find some changes which could help the algorithm to work in my favor.
Right now you can't really blame the store page itself, since there are so few impressions given by the platform itself.
So my focus should now be for the tags, or some other "platform internal" systems, rather than changing the page somehow. Or at least that's my bet right now.
I will change the tags right away to following:
There are some non-defined, but this time I decided to go with the ones that Steam Suggested for the game. I did the tag search, but then Steam suggested the prioritization of these tags.
Let's see how it goes!
The Early Access release is happening on 12th of December. One thing I know about Steam Algorithm is that if you don't get the 10 reviews fast after release, the game will be buried very, very fast within the platform. So please, consider assisting me with the release by reserving a short slot on 12th of December to purchase the game and leave a review. The game will cost around 3 Euros (-15% launch discount) on launch day.
And as always, you're welcome to join our Discord channel to discuss about this or maybe something totally unrelated.
Until next week!
